Possibly from a series of the seasons.
A 'Seegfrörni', a freezing of the lake surface, is documented for 1660.
The motif of winter scenes, the 'wintertjes', has emerged in Dutch painting from depictions of the month and the seasons, in which January or winter was often characterized by scenes with ice skaters.In: Kunsthaus Zürich.
