The road over the Gotthard, built in 1830 on the basis of an intercantonal concordat, was celebrated as a technical masterpiece.
Situated on the south side of the pass, near the San Giuseppe refuge. Mrs Koller pointed out to her husband the usefulness of this nature study for the 'Gotthard Post', see inv. 639.In: Kunsthaus Zürich.
