In 1922 Vallet created an etching of a cradle between two women as a birth announcement; from this he developed the present painting, which he subsequently used as the motif for the lithographed poster of his exhibition at the Kunstsalon Wolfsberg in 1924 (Bernard Wyder: Edouard Vallet. Images nomades. A nomadic life in pictures. Immagini nomadi (exhibition-cat. Pully/Studen/Bellinzona 1995), ill. p. 86 f.).
