The artist is depicted with his partner, Brigitte von Niederhäusern, to whom the painting is dedicated, and their child. The composition is inspired by Johann Friedrich August Tischbein's family portrait in which the two daughters carry the young son to the father sitting at the easel (1799; Leipzig, Museum der bildenden Künste).In: Kunsthaus Zürich.
