We have 36 artworks by Cuno Amiet online. We have 1824 paintings online.
In 1909, Arnold Schwarzenbach-Fürst donated the painting of the loggia on the first floor of the Kunsthaus in memory of his mother. The commission initially went to Hans Brühlmann, but he was terminally ill at the time. In 1910 Amiet submitted his first draft: a series of garden scenes, but a composition of figures was desired. In 1914 he showed the triptych 'Die Wahrheit' (see 'Die Kunst', 1913, inv. 2128) in a large exhibition at the Kunsthaus, but it too was considered unsuitable. He temporarily returned to 'Apfelernte' (Studen, Fondation Saner, painted over a sketch for a side picture), and in 1915 he produced a larger watercolour still reminiscent of the Nabis (Kunsthaus Zürich; Jahresbericht, Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft, 2003, colour fig. 7) with the 'Jungbrunnen', which slowly developed into cubistoid form. The seven panneaux were presented in a first state in the large exhibition hall in May 1917, worked on further on the Oschwand and completed in the Loggia from December to April 1918.

The digitisation of the inventory of the Kunsthaus is an ongoing work in progress. The progression of provenance research will be continuously updated online. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us at provenanceresearch(at)kunsthaus.ch.
