Ernst Ludwig Kirchner1880 Aschaffenburg – 1938 Davos

The small granary in the foreground stood above the house 'In den Lärchen' near Davos, where Kirchner lived from 1918 to 1923. This can be seen in the picture below on the left. The view is down the valley across the Zügen gorge, with the mountains  Chrachenhorn and Mäschengrat appearing in the background.
Kirchner painted the picture on the back of one of his own paintings from 1909/10, which shows a country road and a hut (Donald E. Gordon: Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
