We have 150 artworks by Ferdinand Hodler online.
We have 1824 paintings online.
Caroline Leschaud (Geneva 1856-1830), daughter of a watchmaker, was a classmate of Hodler's at the Geneva Art School and taught classes herself. Hodler fell in love with the 21-year-old in 1877, but when he got too close to her while painting a portrait, she left him forever. Therefore, the painting remained unfinished. Hodler later dated it to 1874; he probably intended it as a companion piece to his self-portrait from the same year (see inv. 1022).
