Second painting for Woodmason's Shakespeare Gallery, cf. inv. 1984/56. In the background two fairies as ladies-in-waiting in contemporary costumes, on the right Cobweb in knight's armor killing a bee and getting hold of the honey bag. Pease-Blossom scratches Bottom's head, the group is surrounded by dancing and music mkaing fairies, observed by Puck in the upper right corner and all as described in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (III, 1).
