The painting was found in 1937 by an antiquarian bookseller in Geneva. According to Brüschweiler (Ferdinand Hodler (exh. cat. Zurich/Berlin, National Gallery/Paris, Musée du Petit Palais 1983)), the painting was created in 1879 after a relative of one of Hodler's fellow painters. In 1984 he published another version. The quality and the initials J K cast doubt on Hodler's authorship.In: Kunsthaus Zürich.
