The main version of 'Empfindung' (1901/02; private collection; Ferdinand Hodler (exh. cat. Zurich/Berlin, Nationalgalerie/Paris, Musée du Petit Palais 1983), no. 79, colour illustration p. 302) is turned to the right, only the sixth, last version (1911/12) to the left. The head belongs to the second figure. There are three quasi-identical versions of this picture, possibly made with studio participation. (cf. Jura Brüschweiler: Deutung und Stellenwert von Ferdinand Hodlers Gemälde 'Die Empfindung' (1901/02, Horizonte, Zurich 2001, pp. 175-186).
