Der Engel des Gerichts

Repetition of the composition 'Angel of Judgement over St. Peter in Tyrol' (1925/26, oil on plywood, 200x 100 cm), which was cut in two by the artist: the upper part is privately owned, the lower part forms the reverse of inv. no. 1953/1 (cf. Paola von Wyss-Giacosa/Sandi Paucic: Helen Dahm (Ausst.-Kat. Erlenbach 2000) pp. 52-54 with illus. and colour illustrations of the fragment). The depiction goes back to the experience of a violent thunderstorm in St. Peter in Tyrol, whose church can be seen here; the figure in the half-collapsed house is probably a self-portrait. Source
