Fernande Olivier (real name Amélie Lang, 1881-1966) was a professional model and lived in the Bateau-Lavoir. She was Picasso's partner from 1904 to 1912. The sculpture corresponds stylistically to the 'époque rose' in Picasso's painting. Cf. inv. 1944/0012.
