The painting 'Parsifal' was created together with the triptych of the same name 'Parsifal I - III' (London, Tate) for a room of an exhibition curated by Johannes Gachnang at the Goethe-Institut Amsterdam. The group of works bears witness to Kiefer's intense preoccupation with Joseph Beuys, with whom he studied from 1970-1972, and at the same time to his 'work on myth'; the quotation is from Richard Wagner's opera libretto.
