We have 13 artworks by Cy Twombly online. We have 1824 paintings online.
Twombly initially intended 'Goethe in Italy' as a unit; only at a later stage were the first two parts set apart from the other four as 'Scene I'.
The two smaller parts 1 and 3 initially formed a unit and were subsequently cut into two parts by the artist.
Goethe stayed in Italy in 1786-1788, a time of self-discovery and return to the roots of European culture, which he described in his 'Italian Journey'.
