Crocifissione

c. 1330/1340

We have 2 artworks by Maestro di Verucchio [Francesco da Rimini?] online.
We have 1824 paintings online.
The panel painted on both sides - on the reverse side delicate violets and birds - was until recently considered part of a diptych whose other wing with Magdalene and saints is located in the Galleria Nazionale in Perugia. Since this panel, unlike the one in Zurich, shows no traces of hinges, this is now being questioned, although all authors continue to emphasize the close connection. The cross follows the typology of the Tree of Life; Mary is not depicted as the one in pain, but as a witness and mediator between the devout observer and the cross as a symbol of redemption.
