The four panels are regarded as the outside and inside of the left wing of the large crucifixion panel in the Frauenkirche in Munich. However, this opinion is contradicted by the finding that the scenes of the Virgin Mary and the Passion cannot be front and back sides of the same wooden panels. Nevertheless, the technical and stylistic peculiarities are so numerous that despite the different attitudes of the Passion and Mary scenes, the five panels must have been created approximately simultaneously in the same workshop. The dating results from the relationship to the panels from the Pollingen Monastery in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, dated 1444 (notes by Ingrid Sibylle Hoffmann).
