Die Kunst

An executed study of 'Truth', 1913, the first version of the murals for the loggia of the Kunsthaus (cf. 'The Fountain of Youth', 1917/18, inv. 1200.a-g), which were rejected and acquired by Josef Müller. Inspired by Hodler's 'Truth', the triptych depicts two frantically gesticulating male nudes on either side and a calmly kneeling female nude in the centre. In the definitive version, the latter holds her hands symmetrically to the left and right; Amiet called the present variant with the hands on the same side 'Art' (see Kunstmuseum Solothurn.
