All sides trimmed, top approximately 9 cm. The panel belonged to the high altar of the Dominican Church in Bern, built around 1516-1518; the separated exterior with the 'Dream of Pope Innocent III of St. Dominic supporting the Lateran Church' is in the Kunstmuseum Bern, other related panels are in the same place, in Basel and in Einsiedeln. After Peter has recognized the Redeemer in Christ, the latter declares him to be the rock on which he will build his church and enfeoffs him with the key power that binds on earth and in heaven (Matthew, XVI, 13-19). The varying quality of this altarpiece reveals the collaboration of journeymen.
