In Salomon Gessner's idyll 'Chloe', Chloe, inflamed with love for Lycas, laments to the nymphs how she crowned the beautiful shepherd and his flute in her sleep in order to catch the laughing gaze of the awakening man (Salomon Gessner: Idyllen, Zurich 1756, pp. 73-76).
Created during Oeri's studies in Louis David's studio in Paris.
