Parts of an altar made for the Cistercian nunnery of Baindt: two panels from the inside of the left wing, above the two saints, below Onophrius; the outside is in Stuttgart (above: 'Wedding at Cana', below: 'Healing of a Blind Man'). Of the right wing, two paintings are preserved in Dijon (inside top: 'Dorothea and Catherine') and Munich (outside: 'Raising of the Young Man of Nain'). The 'Encounter at the Golden Gate' is the only surviving panel of another, inner pair of wings, which showed scenes of Mary's life inside. Two early Christian martyrs are depicted, both of whom have name days on 20 January: on the left, Sebastian, a guard officer under Emperor Diocletian, who was to be killed by arrows and enjoyed great veneration as a patron saint against the plague; on the right, Pope Fabian, who suffered martyrdom by beheading under Emperor Decius in 250.
