Thronende Madonna mit Johannes dem Täufer und Sebastian

c. 1490/1495

Francesco Napoletanoc. 1460 Neapel – 1501 Venedig
We have 2 artworks by Francesco Napoletano online.
We have 1824 paintings online.
With its detailed signature, the panel plays a fundamental role in the work of and research around Francesco Napoletano, a master who may be identical with the Maestro della Pala Sforzesca (Milan, Brera) and who probably contributed to the London version of Leonardo's Madonna of the Rocks (National Gallery). The spatial and compositional disposition corresponds to that of the large altarpieces of the Sacra Conversazione type; the relatively small dimensions indicate an original purpose for domestic devotion. A painting comparable in some aspects can be found in the National Museum in Stockholm.
