The three spiritual cardinal virtues Spes, Fides and Caritas according to Paul (1 Corinthians, XIII, 13).
The triple composition of allegorical figures, often under arched conclusion, beloved by the Nazarenes and developed from Raphael, already passed on to Zurich in enriched form by Vogel in his 'Helvetia' (drawing, 1813; Schweizerisches Landesmuseum). Particularly close are the 'Trauernden Juden im Exil' by Eduard Bendemann (1832; Cologne).
