Der Geiz

1900–1902

Albert Welti1862 Zürich – 1912 Bern
We have 22 artworks by Albert Welti online.
We have 1824 paintings online.
The picture, begun in the fall of 1900 and largely completed by the beginning of February 1901, showed on the right as a counterpart to the 'cheerful' the 'deeper lust for life': a woman reading in an arbor - both missed by the old man over his money counting, driven by the avaricious devil. In April 1902, Welti had the right third sawn off and used it to create the painting 'Abend (Träumerei)' (Winterthur, Foundation for Art and Culture; Lukas Gloor: Albert Welti 1962-1912 (Stäfa 1987), plate 32). The carved frame was designed by Welti.
