Franz Rose, Lord of the Majorate of Doehlau (Schwerin 1854 - Doehlau 1912) was Welti's most important patron, who paid him a pension in return for his work from 1895 onwards and also supported him considerably in his artistic development. The painting was created during a stay of the Welti family in Doehlau, East Prussia.
