Ordered by Conrad Cramer-Frey together with its counterpart (inv. 876) in the spring of 1889: obviously as evocations of love in the pagan and Christian eras. Described by Waser as 'Dancing bacchantes offer wine to the sleeping Pan'; the landscape is based on a plein air oil sketch from the Sabine mountains.
