View of the battlefield on which the Swiss Confederates had defeated the Austrians in 1386 and the memorial chapel that was built afterwards. In the distance, the chain of the Alps with the Titlis, in front of it the Stanserhorn and on the far right the Pilatus can be seen.
For the right foreground, Zünd used a terrain study (see Robert Zünd in his time (exh. cat. Lucerne 1978), no. 24).
