Albert Welti1862 Zürich – 1912 Bern

In this large-format cardboard Welti had already brought together numerous preliminary studies for the composition, which he would change only slightly in the painting completed in 1898 (destroyed, formerly Geneva, Musée d'art et d'histoire; Gloor, Lukas, Albert Welti, Stäfa: Gut, 1987, pp. 43, 46, plate 18).
