Varlin painted a slightly larger version of this painting a little later, in which he showed the Cantonal Hospital from the opposite side and also emphasised the endless length of the façade ('Hommage à Semper', no. 483 in Paola Tedeschi-Pellanda/Patrizia Guggenheim: Varlin, 2 vols.
