not on displayThis self-portrait is one of the last pictures painted by Varlin, created in Bondo in Bergell. Varlin had painted only a few self-portraits throughout his life. Most of them were painted in his last years, when he realised that he would soon have to die. He worked here with small appliqués, such as on the upper left with real upholstered hair from his armchair, which had accompanied him for many years and had now become as decrepit as the man himself.
