Together with Oeri's 'Heimkehr der Zürcher aus der Schlacht bei Tättwil' (inv. 146) for the Schützenfest festival pavilion to mark the 500th anniversary of Zurich's admission to the Swiss Confederation, it was painted within six weeks. Vogel painted the Zurich side, Steiner that of the central Swiss. For the sake of clarity, the scene has been moved from the Grossmünster to the Limmat Bridge with the old town hall, Grossmünster and Fraumünster and the Wellenberg Tower in front of the Alpenkranz.
