One of several repetitions after the original in the Leipzig University Library, which belongs to the same series as the main copy of the self-portrait (inv. 120).
The philosopher and aesthetician Johann Georg Sulzer (Winterthur 1720 - Berlin 1779) wrote the 'Thoughts on the Origin of the Sciences and Fine Arts' in 1762 and the 'General Theory of Fine Arts' in 1771-1774, in which he formulated the aesthetics of the German Enlightenment.
In 1771, Anton Graff married Sulzer's eldest daughter Elisabeth Sophie Auguste (1753-1812).
