Eliezer, the trustee of Abraham's estate, is sent to Syria as a suitor for Isaac. Rebecca gives him a drink at the well and also draws the water for his camels. Eliezer recognizes the sign of God and bestows a gift on the beautiful virgin, the future wife of Isaac (Genesis, XXIV). The theme treated also by Piazzetta, to whom the painting of his pupil is still very close, was popular in the Settecento, it allowed the evocation of a quasi genre-galant biblical Arcadia. Counterpart to inv. 869.
