Leonhard Holzhalb (1503-1553) was the son of the rich councilor and governor Jakob Holzhalb. In 1532 he came from the Konstaffel to the Grand Council and became bailiff of Knonau in the same year. In 1542 he was a member of the council. 1546-1548 he held the office of bailiff in Thurgau. Asper's 'paintings are arranged much like a board game, when you open them, so is on one side the man, but on the other the woman to see' (Johann Caspar Füssli: Geschichte und Abbildung der besten Mahler in der Schweitz, part one, Zurich 1755, p. 31).
