Niklaus Stoecklin1896 Basel – 1982 Basel

Stoecklin repeatedly painted this and other old wig sticks (see Christoph Vögele: Niklaus Stoecklin. 1896-1982 (exhibition cat. Winterthur 1997), plates 12, 32), which once served to store wigs currently not worn. The motif belongs in the circle of the object-like body mockups loved by the Pittura metafisica and the Surrealists. It is possible that Stoecklin was already familiar with Depero's works through Gilbert Clavel from Basel.In: Kunsthaus Zürich.
