Probably made for the altar of the Elsenaar Brotherhood, the shoemaker's journeymen, in St. Salvator Cathedral (Pauwels 2001). When Mary was pregnant with Jesus, she visited Elizabeth, who went with John pregnant (Luke, I, 39-56). The English king's daughter Ursula and her entourage suffered martyrdom at the hands of the Huns in Cologne. The saint on the right is probably Martha with a holy water vessel and a frond with which she overcame the dragon. The building in the background resembles the Oosterlingenhuis of the Hanseatic merchants of 1480 in Bruges. Source
