We have 5 artworks by Hans Asper online. We have 1824 paintings online.
The goldsmith, medallist and stamp cutter Jakob Stampfer (Zurich 1505-1579) was the son of Hans Ulrich I Stampfer (inv. 1835), who is also portrayed by Asper. From 1539, he was commissioned by the Tagsatzung to supervise the processing of precious metals throughout Switzerland, to examine the numerous coins in circulation and to determine their exchange rate.
The panel has been cropped by a few centimetres on the right; the monogram is only partially preserved, so that the painting was considered to be the work of Jost Amman until 1996.
