Struthan Winkelried was a legendary ancestor of the hero of the Battle of Sempach, who freed Unterwalden from a terrible dragon. Small version of the first history painting of Deschwanden; the large version (90 x 68.5 cm) was privately owned in Lucerne (1951), a composition study in charcoal and chalk in the Museum in Stans. The composition served Georg Kaiser as a model for the facade painting at the Historical Museum in Stans.
