The Bonnard family had an estate in Le Grand-Lemps (Isère), between Lyon and Grenoble. The dark-dressed woman in the middle is Elizabeth Bonnard, née Mertzdorff, the painter's mother. His nieces and nephews, the children of his sister Andrée and her husband Claude Terrasse, enliven the picture.
