We have 1650 paintings online.
Johann Jacob Bodmer (Greifensee 1698 - Zurich 1783), author of writings on poetry theory, spiritual and secular dramas and epics, as professor at the Carolinum teacher Füsslis during his theological studies, inspired a whole generation far beyond Zurich by his reassessment of the sublime, fantasy and republican virtues. A generational dialogue and transfer is depicted, under the auspices of Homer: 'Bodmer and Füeszli. The artist seems to listen very attentively to the teachings of the scholar, the bust of Homer is in their midst'. (exh. cat. 1799). Engraved in 1806 by Johann Heinrich Lips, see David H. Weinglass: Prints and engraved Illustrations by and after Henry Fuseli. A catalogue raisonné (Aldershot 1994) no. 275.
