The Piz Duan is located in Bergell above Stampa. The painting is probably Giacometti's first abstract composition, one of the first of its kind. He developed it from small colour studies in pastel, which he regularly made since his time with Grasset, partly from old paintings or impressions of nature, partly from fantasy; the underlying square structure with its wavy outline is based on this.In: Kunsthaus Zürich.
