The ophthalmologist Max Linde, introduced to the art of Munch by Kollmann, was one of the first and most intensive admirers and collectors of his art in Germany. From 1902 to 1908 Munch stayed with him repeatedly; Linde also pointed out to the painter the view from the Hotel Kaiserhof over the Trave and to the Holstentor (Berlin, National Gallery).

About the provenance
Maria Glaser sold the Edvard Munch painting «Hafen von Lübeck» to the Kunsthaus Zürich from New York in 1946, along with «Bildnis Elsa Glaser». Both works came from the collection of the art historian Curt Glaser, who was persecuted on account of his Jewish origin and was suspended from his post as Director of the State Art Library Berlin in 1933. The couple fled temporarily to Switzerland, and from 1935 onwards deposited paintings for safekeeping at the Kunsthaus. However, the war prevented these from being shipped to the US in 1941. In that year and in 1943, Glaser therefore offered some works for sale to the Kunsthaus. He died of tuberculosis in New York in 1943. The sales Glaser made prior to 1945 («Musik auf der Karl Johan Strasse» and «Bildnis Albert Kollmann») are considered to have been made outside the area of Nazi control as ‘flight assets’, and are currently being investigated more closely. The sales made in 1946 are not considered to involve cultural property confiscated as a result of Nazi persecution.
