Vincenzo Vela1820 Ligornetto – 1891 Ligornetto

Count Giulio Litta commissioned Vincenzo Vela in 1846 to create a marble figure, the subject of which the artist was free to choose. The original plaster is in the Museo Vela in Ligornetto; the first version, which was shown in 1846 at the annual exhibition of the Accademia di Brera, adorns the crypt chapel near the small church of Santa Maria delle Selve in Vedano al Lambro near Monza. The present sculpture is a replica with minor differences.In: Kunsthaus Zürich.
