Der Cellospieler. Hans Münch

Depicted is Hans Münch (Mulhouse i. E. 1893 - Basel 1983), who worked in Basel from 1912 onwards; from 1925 he directed the Basler Gesangsverein and from 1935 the Basler Symphonieorchester, the Musikschule and the Konservatorium. In his youth he played the cello in the symphony orchestra. The painting was created on the Oschwand, as was a profile portrait showing Münch at the piano (Max F. Schneider: Musik der Neuzeit in der bildenden Kunst Basels (Basel 1944), no. 110). Source
