We have 1 artwork by Urs Eggenschwyler online. We have 616 sculptures online.
A monumental lion by Eggenschwyler was presented at the trade exhibition on Bellevue in 1894 in order to initiate the installation of Zurich's heraldic animal in a central location. The donors of larger contributions to its realisation received a cast of the model; Hermann Stadler, who built the Corso Theatre at Bellevue a little later, was a member of the central committee of the trade exhibition. In 1895, the city council decided to place the lion on a four-metre-high pedestal on the southern embankment head of the Enge harbour, where it is still located (source-based information by Roman Schönauer).

The digitisation of the inventory of the Kunsthaus is an ongoing work in progress. Due to the time-consuming nature of comprehensive scientific research on each individual artwork, we have decided to disclose some works also without provenance information to the public. The progression of provenance research will be continuously updated online. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us at provenanceresearch(at)kunsthaus.ch.
