Repetition or copy after a slightly larger (32.5 x 41 cm), unfinished painting by Delacroix in the Salomon de Rotschild Foundation in Paris (c. 1863 ?, see Lee Johnson: The Paintings of Eugène Delacroix. A Critical Catalogue. 1816-1831, 7 vols. (Oxford 1981-2002), vol. III, no. 210). Accepted by Robaut (hand copy, no. 756bis, as 'oeuvre très ordinaire'), Johnson tends to regard it as a copy by Pierre Andrieu, pupil and collaborator of Delacroix.
